The Eureka Iron Company was established in Wyandotte in 1853. By 1864 it had produced the first commercial steel ingots in the country. The company flourished in the 1860s but went into decline in the 1870s in part due to a shortage of available wood for its charcoal furnace.
On June 1, 1888, a boiler explosion rocked the works, and the company halted production in 1892.
Eureka Road is named after the Eureka Iron Company.
