Romulus (population 23,989) is a city at the northwest corner of Downriver. Despite this, however, Romulus residents are more likely to visit places in western Wayne County suburbs such as Canton, Westland and Wayne than their Downriver equivalents. Borders are Hannan Road, Van Born Road, Inkster Road and Pennsylvania Road. Interstate 94, Interstate 275, Middlebelt Road, Wayne Road, Ecorse Road, Wick Road, Goddard Road, Northline Road, Eureka Road, Merriman Road, and Huron River Drive all pass through the city. Most know it as the location of Metro Airport. The current mayor is LeRoy Burcroff.
The present-day city was formed in 1970 from a merger between the former village of Romulus and Romulus Township.
