7-Eleven is the largest chain of stores in the world, having exceeded McDonald's in 2007. It now has more than 38,000 convenience stores in eighteen countries. Though founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1927, it is now owned by Seven & I Holdings Co. of Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan.
Although the name 7-Eleven originally referred to the stores' open hours, all 7-Eleven franchises are now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
