The climate of the Yuba-Sutter area is a Mediterranean climate: there is usually no rain at all for the entire duration of summer. The amount of rain we receive in the winter, however, can be very different depending on whether you live in the valley or the foothills (or the Sutter Buttes, if you're one of those rare few). The average annual rainfall ranges from 15.9 inches (all rainfall) in Nicolaus to 82.1 inches (mostly snowfall) in Strawberry Valley.

Temperatures are somewhat more consistent throughout the area than winter precipitation. The hottest summers are in Rackerby and Loma Rica, at the lowest end of the foothills, where the average high in July is 96.4°. The coolest summers in Sutter County are not much lower than that, with Meridian's average high in July being 95.0°, but the coolest summers in Yuba County are in Strawberry Valley, which has an average high in July of 84.4°. The warmest winters are a bit west of the hottest summers, with Yuba City, Marysville, Live Oak, Wheatland, and indeed most of the surrounding area all having an average low in January of 38.0°. The coldest winters are of course in Strawberry Valley, which has an average low in January of 29.4°.
