The Islamic Center of Yuba City is the only Islamic mosque in the Yuba-Sutter area. It primarily serves the local Punjabi-American community. The majority of Punjabi-Americans in the Yuba-Sutter area are Sikh rather than Muslim, and the majority of people in India are Hindu rather than Muslim, but the majority of people in the Punjab province of India are Muslim.

Islam is a monotheistic, Abrahamic religion based on the teachings of the Qur'an and the prophet Muhammad. The Islamic Center of Yuba City practices Sufism, the mystical aspect of Islam (sometimes called the Way of the Heart), and is connected with two Sufi Orders, the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi Order and the Qadiri Rifai Sufi Order. Its website states:

Sufism recognizes and nurtures the spiritual nature of human beings.
Without nurturing the soul, any religion can become hard and dogmatic.
Islam's long legacy has been to nurture the spiritual nature of man . . .
The spiritual richness of Islam is the aspect that the fundamentalists and extremists have carefully extracted from their teachings, schools, and mosques.
This is something that has been systematically and consciously cultivated for many years.
Now, Islamic learning has become dangerously unbalanced
without the teachings of its saints and shaykhs.
Because . . .
for the Extremist, Islam is about power.
For the Sufis, Islam is about Surrender.

The U.S. Religious Landscape Survey conducted in 2007 by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that 47% of Muslims in the U.S. have at least one child living at home, and 15% have three or more. These percentages are second only to LDS members among major religious groups in the U.S., with 49% of LDS members in the U.S. having children under age 18 living at home, and 21% having three or more children at home.1
