These are non-binding rules, but try to adhere to them so that the Mystery Picture game is fair:

  1. The mystery picture should be taken in Yuba County or Sutter County

  2. The mystery picture should be taken in an area where people are usually present (i.e., not at some unnamed location in the middle of Tahoe National Forest).

  3. The mystery picture should depict something that can be observed from a publicly accessible place (i.e., not in a private home or office building).

  4. The mystery picture should depict something unique and easily recognizable to anyone who has seen it (i.e., not a mass-produced object).

  5. The mystery picture should depict something that can faithfully be expected not to change so significantly as to become unrecognizable between the time that you take the picture and the time a guess is made (i.e., not a snowman or similarly temporary object).

Instructions for adding a Mystery Picture

1. Download the photo that is currently shown on the Mystery Picture page to your computer. 2. Upload that same photo to the Mystery Picture History page. 3. Edit the Mystery Picture History page to preserve the information about who uploaded it, who guessed it, and where it was taken. 4. Upload your new photo to the Mystery Picture page. 5. Edit the Mystery Picture page to move the last photo to the "Previously..." section and put yours in the top slot. 6. Go to the Mystery Pictures/Guesses page and delete the comments about the previous picture.
