Other Ghost Stories

A story called "Milk Bottles," published in the book Spooky California: Tales of Hauntings, Strange Happenings, and Other Local Lore, retold by S. E. Schlosser, is set in Yuba City. It tells of "a small, thin woman with dark hair, a narrow face, and faded blue eyes" who kept asking a local merchant for milk during the Great Depression and then taking the milk without paying for it. On the third day, the merchant followed the woman, who went to the city cemetery and then vanished into a grave. A baby's cry emanated from the grave. The merchant called the police, who dug up the grave and found the woman dead in her coffin, holding two full milk bottles and a still-living baby, whom the merchant then adopted.

**EDIT- The story of "Milk Bottles" is a fictionalized folklore that has been told for many generations, in many countries. Some are told through traditional African American folktale, others are told in America from the mid to late 1800s. The original version was first passed through generations in Northern Europe. Much like stories of "Lover's Leap", they can pass through region to region changing slightly to accommodate the local culture. These stories have been told in America, Africa, Germany, France, Scandinavia, and even Lithuania. But,it originated in China in the 1100s, then it was passed to Japan. The story sill circulates today. To see other examples - "The Deviation Diaries" by Anna Hill

UFO Sightings

The Yuba-Sutter area is in the center of an area called "Triangle Alley," extending from Redding through Sacramento and south to Sonora. It is said that triangle-shaped UFOs are regularly reported in the sky above Triangle Alley. An episode of UFO Hunters on the History Channel described the reported sightings.
