Phebe Mason Abbott Rideout founded Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville in 1907, the same year that her husband, Norman Dunning Rideout, died. Phebe Rideout donated the Rideout family home (located where the Hotel Marysville now stands) to be converted into the hospital building. The hospital first opened in 1908. In 1926, it was moved to its current larger building, and its original building was torn down to build the Hotel Marysville.1

Phebe Rideout also successfully sued Charles Julian Covillaud and others when they attempted to dispute her ownership of a lot in Marysville after her husband's death. The Rideouts had been married for 48 years and had three children: Norman Abbott, Grace, and Edward.2

Rideout Way in Marysville is named for Phebe and her husband.
