Chuck Stallman of Island Gardens of Grosse Ile has been a vendor at the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market for 35 years. The former teacher used to work in a greenhouse for a farmer who raised tomatoes and cucumbers. However, without a greenhouse, Stallman decided he wanted to raise perennials and wildflowers -- plants that don't require a shelter from the elements during the growing season.
