The flume for which Flume Street is named is visible in Birdseye View of Chico 1871. Flume Street is a street that extends from East First Street to Humboldt Avenue. The street was named for the flume built by John Bidwell to power his flour mill on Big Chico Creek and The Esplanade. That flume roughly paralleled the creek and is clearly shown on the Birdseye View of Chico 1871.
