Wilhelmina Taggart (b. Oct 2, 1905 - d. September 2000) was a local resident born in Hillsdale, Oregon. She was an activist and founder of the Chico Peace Endeavor. When missile silos were built on the north end of town, Taggart began to make weekly visits to the site to pray for peace. She was soon joined by Florence McLane, and Helen Kinnee. After the silos were closed, they began holding their peace vigil at Third and Main which continues to this day. Taggart’s work resulted in the founding of the Chico Peace Center, which subsequently became the Chico Peace & Justice Center.
