Saranac Lake facades on display
Architect reveals new drawings July 17
SARANAC LAKE - Architect John Bero will present his conceptual drawings for renovations to the facades of Saranac Lake's downtown commercial buildings at a public meeting at 5 p.m. Friday, July 17.
Historic Saranac Lake, sponsor of the project, will host the meeting in the North Elba Town House, 132 River St. The public is welcome, and building owners and their commercial tenants are especially invited to attend. The 16 presentation boards show designs for buildings on Main Street, Broadway and Bloomingdale Avenue. These hand-colored drawings will be of special interest to owners who are planning renovations. Buildings throughout downtown were selected for the project if work had not recently been done on their facades.
Bero also restored the glazed terra cotta cornice on the Village Office building and designed the Union Depot renovations.
Historic Saranac Lake planned this project to cooperate with the Downtown Revitalization Project spearheaded by the Village Community Development Office. The work was made possible with public funds from the Architecture, Planning and Design Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. It is hoped that these drawings will stimulate preservation and replacement of character-defining building elements.
