Mrs. Abbie Fortune, 77, Buried on Wednesday
Funeral of Mrs. Abbie Fortune, 77, widow of Antoine Fortune, one of Saranac Lake's pioneer businessmen took place at 2 p.m. Wednesday in .Saranac Lake Methodist Church. The Rev. Theodore R. Bundy officiated. Burial was in Pine Ridge cemetery.
Mrs. Fortune died in the Saranac Lake General hospital Sunday after a brief illness.
She was born in St. Armand, Feb. 25, 1870, the daughter of James and Caroline Ling. When she was 12 years old her family moved to Bloomingdale where they opened a general store. On Dec. 25, 1885, she was married to Fortune and they continued to make their home in Bloomingdale until 1891 when they moved to this village. In 1903 Mr. Fortune opened a business in Saranac Lake and he conducted it until his death. Surviving are her son, James A. Fortune of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a grandson, Andrew J. Fortune, of Saranac Lake and a great-grandson, Andrew J. Fortune, Jr., also of Saranac Lake.
