Mrs. Stephen Merchant, one of the best-known residents of Saranac Lake, who had made her home in that village for 37 years, died on Sunday last, aged 78 years. Her husband who was long one of Saranac Lake’s prominent businessmen, passed away Mar. 29th of last year. Mrs. Wesley Jordan who with her husband, was killed in an automobile accident near Malone last summer was an adopted daughter. Thus there have been four deaths in the family within a year. The tragic death of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan is believed to have hastened the old lady’s end. She was a devoted member of the Saranac Lake Methodist church from which her funeral was held on Tuesday.
