Earle A. Colby was a World War II Veteran. He was a son of Verner and Ada N. (Hinds) Colby.

Late in his life he worked for the Village Improvement Society, maintaining its parks.

Earle A Colby

SARANAC LAKE — Earle A. Colby, 85, of 5 1/2 Pine St. died Monday, August 17, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was born Aug. 16, 1902, in AuSable Forks, the son of Verner and Ada N. (Hinds) Colby.

Mr. Colby was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School and the Albany Business College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He was a civilian employee and traveled extensively for the federal government, retiring in 1967. He also worked as a caretaker of Denny Park for a number of years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #447 and the 40 and 8 group.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Michalowski of Pawtucket, R.I.; a nephew, Stuart Colby of Westbrook, Conn., and a niece, Jean Cuniff of Albany.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune Funeral Home, with a veterans' service at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Lowenthal officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Donations in Mr. Colby's memory may be made in care of the funeral home to American Legion Post #447 for the Veterans' Color Guard Fund.
