Frank Wehs came to Saranac Lake in 1948 and built the Lake Side Motel in 1952 operating it his retirement in 1962.

Frank Wehs

Frank Wehs, 92, of St Augustine, Fla. and formerly of 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Friday, Sept. 2, 1994 in St Augustine.

Born Aug. 25, 1902 in Horas, Germany, the son of Damian and Magoalana (Post) Wehs. He married Elsie Braun, who predeceased him on Nov. 3, 1962.

A resident of St Augustine, Fla. since 1990, he had previously lived in Saranac Lake. He came to Saranac Lake in 1948, where he built the Lakeside Motel in 1952. He owned and operated the motel until his retirement in 1962. Prior to moving to Saranac Lake Mr. Wehs had lived in Rochester, having come over from Europe in 1927. He was employed as an electrician by the Rochester Laundry Machining Co. until 1942. He owned and operated a restaurant business in Rochester from 1944 until he sold the business in 1952.

Mr. Wehs was a member of the Moose Club of Rochester, the Stubuen Society of Rochester, and a member of St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Brush of St. Augustine, Fla. and Diana Herbert of Saranac Lake; two brothers, August Wehs and Carl Wehs, and a sister, Barbara Krunkorn, all of Germany; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are in the care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home of Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A burial service will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice in care of the funeral home.
