Harold E. Young taught English and later served as director of guidance at Saranac Lake High School.  He was a World War II veteran.  He lived at 37 Clinton Avenue from 1948 to 1969.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Harold E. Young, of Lake Shore drive, died Saturday, July 17, 1993 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Yonkers, the son of Calvert and Cara (Armitage) Young.

An Army veteran of World War II, he received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from New York University.

He retired as director of guidance from Saranac Lake High School in 1977, a position he had held since 1953. Prior to this position he was department chairman and taught English at the high school and at the Lake Mohonk School for Boys in Lake Mohonk.

Mr. Young was a former member and Sunday school teacher of the First Presbyterian Church in Saranac Lake. After retiring Mr. Young moved to Myrtle Beach, where he was a member of the Myrtle Wood Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Thompson Young of Myrtle Beach; a son, David.C. Young of Syracuse; two daughters, Kilnore Godin of Tupper Lake and Mary Ellen Law of Mexico, N.Y.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Kidd Young, in 1970.

A memorial service was held Monday in Myrtle Beach. Interment followed.
