Jack Cogan was a teacher in the Lake Placid Central School District. After retirement in 1978, he and his wife owned and operated the Pioneer Village cabins in Ray Brook.  He taught business education for 27 years according to an article in the April 2, 1997 Tupper Lake Free Press and Herald.

Former Lake Placid teacher Cogan dies

ALTON, Ill. - Word has been received of the death of John R. “Jack” Cogan, who died on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in central Ohio while en route to Alton, Ill. He and his wife, Martha, were moving to Alton from Ray Brook and had set off on Monday.

Mr. Cogan was a retired teacher from the Lake Placid Central School District. He and his wife had owned and operated the Pioneer Village cabins in Ray Brook since 1978.

As chairman of the building committee for Adirondack Habitat for Humanity, Mr. Cogan directed construction of finished Habitat houses in Vermontville, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake, as well as two others still under construction in Tupper Lake.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Dougherty of Elsa, Ill.; a son, James Cogan of Issaquah, Wash., and two granddaughters.
