William H. Douglas was a guide and son of Henry Douglas who ran a fine 75 person hotel with his sons on Silver Lake (3 1/2 miles SE of Union Falls).

W. H. DOUGLAS, GUIDE OF AREA, PASSES AWAY

William H. Douglas, 77, a guide in this section of the Adirondacks for many years, passed away at 10:15 o'clock last night at a local sanatorium following an illness of several years.

Mr. Douglas was born April 10, 1871 in Malone, the son of the late Henry and Johanna Boyle Douglas. He was educated in that village and later moved to Lake Clear to reside. He guided many notable Americans during their vacations in the Adirondacks.

Surviving him are two sons, John A. Douglas of Schenectady and William H. Douglas of Lake Placid; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie White of Lake Pleasant; a brother, George D. Douglas of Lake Clear, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The body is reposing at the Currier Funeral chapel. Services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday from the chapel with the Rev. Douglas Gray, pastor of the Keeses Mills Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will be in Harrietstown cemetery.
