Grouse Ridge is a ridge located a one-hour drive northeast of Nevada City, a bit north of Lake Spaulding. It is a 1.75-hour drive from Reno, a 2-hour drive from Sacramento or Yuba City, or a 2.75-hour drive from Chico. It is in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest. Its elevation is 6,160 feet.

There are numerous lakes along Grouse Ridge, including (from northwest to southeast) Carr Lake, Feeley Lake, Hidden Lake, Island Lake, Long Lake, Round Lake, Milk Lake, Downey Lake, Sanford Lake, and Loney Lake. Other lakes slightly farther north include Lindsey Lake, Bullpen Lake, Culbertson Lake, Penner Lake, Crooked Lakes, and Middle Lake. Even farther north are Rock Lake, Lower Rock Lake, and Shotgun Lake.
