Municipal
The City of Norwalk has a Mayor-council system of municipal government. The City of Norwalk's administration offices are in the City Hall building located at 125 East Avenue in the former Norwalk High School building.
Norwalk's Common Council consists of fifteen councilmembers, five elected at-large and 10 elected, 2 each from each of five districts. The mayor is chosen by the voters indepedently of the council and serves for four years.
The Common Council appoints members of numerous Boards and Commissions. The City of Norwalk is comprised of six taxing districts.
County
Norwalk is part of Fairfield County. However this is only a cultural and geographic designation. County government was abolished in Connecticut in 1960.
