History

Originally named San Vincente, the town of Davenport was formed in 1905 to house the employees of the new Santa Cruz Portland Cement Company plant.  The town is surrounded by over 7,000 acres of Coastal Dairies property, which became part of the California State Park System in July 14, 2006.  The land is split between the state and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Agriculture.
