The Kitchen Sisters first started working together in radio in the late 1970s on the show Every Wrinkle Tells a Story on KUSP. Their name was derived from The Kitchen Brothers, who were the builders of the enigmatic structures the Fair Avenue Temple. Currently they work together on the nationally syndicated shows Hidden Kitchens and Lost and Found Sound on NPR. Both broadcasters are involved in public media education, and Davia Nelson is also a screenwriter and casting director, while Nikki Silva is also a museum curator and exhibit consultant. They both attended UCSC; Davia Nelson graduated with a B.A. in politics (1975) and Nikki Silva graduated with a B.A. in aesthetic studies (1973).
