Golden Gate Transit is a public transit system run by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District that provides commuters with buses between San Francisco and the North Bay, as far north as Santa Rosa, with limited service between San Rafael and the El Cerrito del Norte BART station. The system has many different models of buses in its fleet. There are regular style buses that are the same as the buses used by New York City Transit. They also have larger coach-style buses for certain long distance routes.

Golden Gate Transit is the equivalent to BART in the North Bay, due to the fact that Marin was forced to withdraw from the original BART plan.
