The Village of Oak Park has a list of standing premier events that include the following:
A Day in Our Village - "A Day in Our Village provides an opportunity for current and prospective residents to discoverAdd a caption the diversity and variety of civic, cultural, social service, business, educational and religious organizations and groups in the Village."
Oak Park Farmers Market - "The Oak Park Farmers' Market offers high quality, locally grown produce in the friendly, historic Village of Oak Park. The market is a step back into simpler times . . . buying things from the farmers who grow them, surrounded by the sounds of live bluegrass music, the smell of fresh, homemade donuts and an incredible variety of nature's bounty."
July 4 Parade - "Among the entries typically scheduled to march are social and special interest groups, community groups, athletic teams, politicians, businesses and service organizations, children’s groups, animal lovers with their pets and musical groups."
Halloween in Oak Park - "Each year, the Village Board sets the official hours for Halloween trick or treating. Typically, the hours are 3 to 7 p.m., Oct. 31."
Sculpture Walk - "At least 12 sculptural or installation works will part of the outdoor exhibit in the Park District of Oak Park’s Mills Park at Pleasant and Home avenues in Oak from June 5 through Sept. 5."
West Cook YMCA - Calendar of Events
There are two reoccurring events to take a look at:
Teen Night - "All young people have great potential! On Fridays at the Y, teens involved in Teen Night will gain confidence as they recognize the Y as a place where they can feel comfortable spending time with friends while exploring new interests like basketball, swimming, or crafting. We will work as a team to help them set and achieve their personal and educational goals. Our staff will provide various opportunities, beginning with a guest speaker series, for every teen to take an active role in strengthening the community through service and leadership. Teens must bring a lock for their belongings. No personal belongings will be allowed in the gyms. The Y Box is available for Teen Night from 8:00-9:30pm."
Oak Park Public Library - Calendar of Events
Recurring children events include:
- Shake, Rattle, and Read - "This energetic program is designed for children of all ages, with caregiver support. The importance of music and movement in pre-literacy is emphasized in this program that will get everyone up on their feet and singing with loud enthusiasm."
- Young & Restless - "This class is designed for one-on-one interactions between caregivers and children birth to 24 months. Short books are paired with songs and rhymes that are modeled to introduce pre-literacy skills. Walkers love to wander and listen while they explore, and caregivers can help them participate while on the move. Babies learn to associate books with fun and shared moments with their favorite adults."
- Preschool Pals - "This class is designed for three and four-year-olds, to prepare for a school environment. Children are learning how to participate in groups and engage independently, while listening to longer books and more challenging concept games. Caregivers are encouraged to attend. Limit: 30. Oak Park Public Library card required at Main Library."
- Bouncing Babies - "For babies up to 15 months, with a caregiver. Boost your baby's brain power with simple board books, engaging props, fun rhymes, singing, and socializing."
- Baby Playgroup - "For babies up to 15 months, with a caregiver. Hands-on and age appropriate pre-literacy activities for you to share with your child."
- Walking Wonders - "This class is designed for 1:1 interactions between caregivers and walkers up to 24 months. One-year-olds love to wander and listen while they explore, and caregivers can help them participate while on the move. Short books are paired with songs and rhymes that are modeled to introduce pre-literacy skills. Limit: 20. Oak Park Public Library card required at Main Library."
- Ones and Twos - "For children up to 36 months, with a caregiver. Created especially for curious wanderers. We bring stories to life by sharing delightful books, friendly puppets, music, and movement games."
- Toddler Playgroup - "For 1- and 2-year-olds, with a caregiver. Hands-on and age appropriate pre-literacy activities for you to share with your child."
- Terrific Twos - "This class is designed for two-year-olds with caregiver support. Two-year-olds are learning how to sit, listen and interact with the storyteller, and often still need assistance from caregivers to feel successful. Longer books and imaginative games are paired with more complex stories and rhymes to reinforce at home. Limit: 25. Oak Park Public Library card required at Main Library."
- Curiosity Club - "Games, crafts, and activities will be matched with stories in this hands-on session that is a great way to discover both new books and new friends. Best for ages 4-8."
- Sensory Storytime - "This class is designed for children with special needs ages 3 and up with caregiver support. Classes are structured with Boardmaker schedules and include fun picture books and songs, along with fine and gross motor movement activities. Special supports like lap weights and fidget toys are available to help children be successful. Siblings welcome."
- After the Bell - "It's our weekly after-school program for kids ages 8+! Activities include crafts, movies, and games."
- Teen Volunteer Association - "Help with a variety of projects including planning teen events, crafting for local organizations, boxing books, and organizing materials on library shelves. Teen volunteers will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 pm, as often as their schedules allows. Sign up today."

- Chess Open Play - Open play, all ages, all skill levels.
- Tech Workshops - These workshops provide an introduction to a wide variety of technological resources.
- More Than a Month series - "A yearlong health, wellness, and black aesthetics-focused exploration of the African diaspora and its imprint on the contemporary black experience across cultures and continents."
- ESL Conversation Cafe
- Yarns & Yarn - "All are welcome to join a group of avid readers who meet to discuss books while they knit and crochet blankets and scarves to donate to various charities. No knitting experience needed."
- Adult Improv Workshop - "Looking for a way to let your inner comedian run free? Want to improve your quick-thinking skills? Join us for a night of spontaneous comedy. All skill levels welcome. Warning: hilarity will ensue..."
- Oak Park Creates - "Talks featuring Oak Park residents & their creations!"
- Open Board-Game Play - "Open game play on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Bring your own board games, or just bring yourself."
- Homeschool Meet-Up - "Drop in each week to socialize with other local homeschooling families. Sack lunches welcome. Best for ages 6+ and siblings."
- Oak Park Photography Club
- Wednesday Writers' Word Fest - "A writers' group for adult and teen fiction writers of all types and genres. Bring your lunch, your words to share, and your words yet to be written. If you're new, bring a bit of flash fiction you are proud of (1,000 words or less) to introduce yourself to the group."
