Bonny Doon is an unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County, near Davenport, Ben Lomond and Felton. Nearly the entire area is wooded, and there are no commercial areas or suburbs to speak of.

History

Bonny Doon was founded in 1850 as a logging town. It was named by Scotsman John Burns after a poem by Scottish poet Robert Burns (no relation). In 2008 the Martin Fire raged through the area, burning 700-900 acres and prompting the evacuation of 1700 residents of Bonny Doon.

Businesses

There is no central commercial area for Bonny Doon, but many individuals run home-based services in arts, computing, consulting and other fields. Most employed individuals either comute to a ore metropolitain area, telecommute, or work out of their homes. There are also a few lone businesses scattered throughout the area:

• Bonny Doon Vineyard
• Bosch Baha'i Retreat Center, which is attached to the Bosch Baha'i School
• Cemex Cement Plant

Transportation

Metro routes 41 and 42 serve Bonny Doon, though service is limited to only a few times per day for each route. Metro ParaCruz also serves the area.
