French Ravine is a ravine that is about one mile long. It is drained by a stream that flows into the Yuba River from the north, opposite French Bar, about 3.5 miles south of Dobbins and just downstream from Condemned Bar. It is the site of a former community that was known as Frenches Ravine, which was named for the fact that a large percentage of the gold miners living there in the Gold Rush era were French.
