Home Page of Ann Haines

Born Corryong in NE Victoria March 1939.  Eldest of 4 children.

Ann grew up on a then isolated dairy farm, learning more about cows, rabbits and horses than school ritual.  Lessons were by correspondence for 3 years, then proper scchool attendance and socialisation began.  Boarding school loomed large for the 4 siblings, which helped develop self reliance and interest in how other people functioned.  Community involvement was a given from an early age for us all.

Ann trained as an Infant teacher at Melbourne Teacher's College, taught in "disadvantaged "schools until marriage brought her to Adelaide.  Once the 4 children of this happy time were educated and on their way in the world, Ann returned to further study and preschool teaching , thus continuing her interest in children with special needs, and their families.  Ann's husband died suddenly in 1988, leaving a gap in the family.and Ann's self reliance tested to the extreme.  As the children married and moved away, Ann met and married David, moved to Hahndorf where they became deeply involved in organisations and community happenings within Hahndorf - and remain so.

Ann was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for services to Handorf in June 2006.
