4. General Business

  1. Planning Session 25 September AGM (Speaker, Topic, Agenda)

  • An invitation has been extended to Alex McKenzie, State Planning Commission – awaiting response

  • Discussion re alternative speakers, including Council representative, History Trust Chair, National Trust Chair, also representative from CFS, which celebrates its 70th anniversary

  • Venue confirmed – St Michael's Hall

Action: Jean and Margaret to confirm speakers. Malcolm to set AGM Agenda

Suggestion to extend events committee : Margaret, Deb and Wendy nominated

  1. AGM – Election to the Committee

  • Members asked to consider their availability to commit to being a member of the HCA Committee

5. Business Arising Meeting Times Day/Evening

  • Discussion regarding pros and cons of day versus evening meetings.

  • New Committee to consider following AGM

6. Correspondence In/Out Emails as presented

6.1. Correspondence from Maddie Dobbin re Main Street Revitalisation Plan.

  • Open for Public Consultation from 26th August to 20th September

  • Narelle suggests highlighting the consultation in Village Voice to encourage input

Action: Jean to email details to Members

6.2.Yantaringa – email from Pam Chipperfield, Trees for Life, seeking information regarding site works.

  • Jean and Narelle have provided feedback.

  • The lookout has been tidied up, and plantings done by schoolchildren

  • Sue advised that youth are riding bikes on 4 Wheel drive tracks, and concerns raised re not using tracks and damaging bushland. Suggests involvement of youth once definitive decisions are made re the site.

  • Jean suggests HCA goal to apply for a Community Grant in 12 months, to promote community involvement

  • Jordana – opportunity to promote the project during the Women's Tour Down Under

  • Mike stressed the need for a coordinated approach, involving all stakeholders.

6.3. Harold requests that all correspondence in/out be noted in the Minutes. Jean tabled the list of all email activity for the month. Action: Jean

7. Reports 2018/19

7.1 Council (N Hardingham)

  • Narelle confirmed the Yantaringa points discussed above, also reinforced the need to engage in the Community Consultation re the Main Street

  • She is liaising with David Cooney, MBDC, re Yantaringa

7.2 Events (A. Haines)

  • HCA AGM - 25th September at St Michael's Hall

  • Remembrance Day – to complete Marketing Plan and Risk Management plan

  • Council grant up to $500.00

  • Guest Speaker will be Meredith Wyles, outgoing State President of Legacy

  • Wreath making and morning tea set up will be at 2pm on Sunday 10th November in the Institute

7.3 Financial (E Aliffe) – Report unavailable due to illness

7.4 Township Plan (J Germano) – refer above discussion

7.5 Village Voice (W Williams/A Haines)

  • Awaiting finalization of AGM details. Will be delivered at end of August.

7.6 Nixon’s Mill Stage 2 (E. Aliffe)

  • No further information regarding beautification.

  • There is no Disabled Access to the Mill

7.7 Yantaringa Reserve Open Space Cycling and Walking Trail (P&S O’Brien)

  • Refer discussion at item 6.2

8. Working Groups

8.1 Strempel Avenue Verge Landscaping (J Germano)

  • Frost damage has been significant, but some plants have survived – wait to see recovery

  • $300.00 still available from grant money, and some plants are still to be supplied

  • Awaiting supply of bench seat

8.2 Heritage Planning and Policies (H Gallasch)

  • Harold has met with National Trust, State Planning and others to review Main Street developments. Council have final say.

  • Harold is awaiting response to his correspondence

  • Jordana – Planner has to have regard for State Heritage guidelines

  • New Statutory Code for Hahndorf is not yet written – will go to Community Consultation.

9. Other Business

Jordana Ashcroft O’Sullivan, Joint Chair of Hahndorf Traders and Tourism, spoke on Traders Projects ‘Making Hahndorf a more Dementia Friendly Community’ and ‘a Community Garden Project on the grounds of St. Paul’s’.

  • Jordana spoke about her ideas for a community garden, and has identified an area at St Paul's which would be suitable

  • Plan to canvas St Paul's residents for their interest

  • John Buchan stressed the importance of considering the design concept

  • Russell referred to other Community Gardens as guides – Duck Flat, Goodwood Community Garden

  • CEO of St Paul's is keen to develop a Dementia Friendly environment

  • Idea of a Workshop for Traders to increase Dementia Awareness

Tony Hannon visited and reported on the Winter Lantern Festival

  • Festival commences Friday 23rd August with a Classical Concert in the Institute, free for children

  • Market and community engagement starts at 3pm, 24th August

  • Lantern Parade commences at dusk from Alec Johnston Park, through St Michael's School grounds to Balhannah Road, then to the Academy lawns

  • Balhannah Road to be closed from Main Street to Church Street

Russell raised the following issues:

  • Acoustics in the Supper Room, and the difficulty in hearing – possible use of fabric covered panels to assist with acoustics.

  • The poor state of kerbing and potholes in the Main Street. Need to advise Council, photographs are useful adjuncts to complaints.

  • Queried whether dogs should be muzzled when walking in the Main Street – to check with Council if there is any policy re this.

  • Recent heavy rain has caused flooding in the Main Street and Auricht Close

  • Debris in the creek lines are contributing to flooding potential

Action: Jean to email Maddie Dobbin re what action is being taken with regard to the stormwater plan for Hahndorf
