Minutes of Committee Meeting Held Wednesday 11 October 2017

4. Business Arising

Cider House 580/1140/15 Objection, not scheduled for CAP in October.

5. Correspondence In/Out

As attached. Jean to send email to Nathan Franklin and Maddie Dobson re correspondence in November. Action Jean

Jean updates Committee on Township Plan flyer distribution. Flyers sorted and in bags. Need to be completed by 16 November. Electronic version of plan will be distributed to Committee members next week. Action Jean HCA will do submission, everyone encouraged to do individual submissions.

Bruce discusses logo design (John Ashcroft), Bruce to get other ideas. Bruce discusses AGM and thanks Garry Duncan and Allan Campbell for all their efforts. Ann Haines makes it all happen. Knowledge of the past, all the details. St. Michaels to be thanked. Bruce will not be staying on the Committee. Vision of Hahndorf as legacy of Hans Heysen.

6. Election of Chair, Deputy Chair, Secretary and Treasurer

Jean nominates Malcolm as Chair, all in favour. Malcolm acknowledges Bruce as a driver, thanks Bruce. Mike Greenwood has agreed to step in as Deputy Chair as required, overseas, will leave position open. Bruce will step in to chair when Malcolm is away. Malcolm nominates Jean as Secretary, all in favour. This will be Jean’s last year as Secretary. Janet nominates Eric as Treasurer, all in favour. Bruce leaves meeting.

7. Formation of Subcommittees 2017/18

7.1 Township Plan

Jeff has hard copy and has reviewed, same issues he is working on, already underway. Malcolm says we will have a chance to review it, put our thoughts together, in a response.

Eric would like to change name from Community to Residents Association. Eric would also like a subcommittee for general items that need addressing in the town. Margaret thinks community means getting together of residents, promoting the feeling of community in Hahndorf. Malcolm says it would require a change to the constitution, let’s think it through.

Ann W expresses some concern about plan. Jean suggests waiting until the Township Plan is distributed before forming new subcommittees. Phil is more concerned about parking now. Mike thinks we should leave subcommittees as is. All agree to look at plan. Jeff mentions infill. 50% increase in Hahndorf population over the last 10 years. Visitor numbers increasing.

Janet says VV comes under marketing and promotion. Talks about launch of Nixon’s Mill. Nice occasion, Mayor & National Trust attended, as well as many others. Morning tea held at the Institute afterwards, catering provided by Heidi, will do again for Remembrance Day. Eric has been the passionate driver. Eric says Stage 1 is finished. Association will get status in time. Good communication. Malcolm says Eric ‘lesson in patience and politeness’. AGM turned into function. Ann has given Janet detailed instruction on Remembrance Day. 3C Church Pastor, MC Bob Willis, Bruce has organized Speaker. Heidi is catering. Sign outside PO. Will be on a Saturday, massive day, lots of visitors. Poppies organized. VC exhibition in Institute. .

7.6 Village Voice

John (PO) set up meeting at The Haus for all Hahndorf committees. Amazing what they get up to, VV will report on committee activities, CFS, etc. Jean realizes with Bruce’s resignation, we will need to nominate a replacement for the Hall Committee. Janet nominates Eric, Mike seconds. All agree. Jean will inform Judith via email. Action Jean

8. Reports

8.1 Financial Report - Eric submits report. Closing balance $4194.99.

8.2 Nixon’s Mill - Article in Courier. Mike says needs sails. Phil says should be original. Malcolm thanks Eric for all the work he and Jim did.

8.3 Entrance Statement - Letter to Editor. Looks fantastic. Original title holders on posts. Can’t change what is true and factual. Malcolm suggests using Entry Statement as logo. Malcolm to follow up. Action Malcolm

8.4 Council Matters - Council only meeting once a month. Can request a meeting in Hahndorf. Looking at draft environmental strategy. Climate change. Still no amendments to development plan allowed by State government. Hopefully Township plan will support Jeff’s efforts. Council spending 1.6 million on multi story carpark in Mount Barker. Result of master plan of Mount Barker Main Street. Malcolm acknowledges Jeff’s efforts.

8.5 Planning/Heritage - No report. Jean has not reviewed Building List.

8.6 Digital Progress Facebook/Wiki Approx 80 following on Facebook, lots of posting and info sharing.

9. General Business

9.1 Queens Baton Relay - Community Grant $500 Janet says approach schools to come down to the roadside, wave flags. Pass to Events Committee, do a budget and review intentions. Action Janet

10. Other Business

Need a volunteer to do minutes in November, Jan or Ann. Eric asked about Old School. Cedars wants to use as a promotional tool. Baton Relay is 21/2/18. Malcolm welcomes John Ranford. John moved to Hahndorf last July. John discusses petty thieving incidents.
