Present:

Lyndell Davidge, Annette Oien, Tony Finnis, Bryon Finch, Anni Luur Fox

Apologies:

Reg Butler, John and Margaret Brooks, Margaret Finnis.

Business:

1.  Hahndorf Business and Tourism.    Lyndell reported that she had met with Corinna Steeb who plans to organize a Lantern Festival on 11 Nov, St Martin’s Day in Germany, Remembrance Day in Australia.  They had discussed HBT’s proposed entrance statements and previous community consultations on the topic of design.

2.  Hahndorf Pioneer Park.   Tony reported that Mt Barker Council has accepted John Buchan’s new concept plan approved by the Community Association.  Tony and Anni had met with John on 6 August to discuss the plan and suggest including some food plants native to the area.  Anni promised to type up a list and see if she could find the original plan of the park developed by townspeople who demolished an early fachwerk cottage on the site in 1939, Hahndorf’s centenary.

3.  Hahndorf Academy.   Lyndell reported that the new director, Kate Wake, was previously a curator at Tandanya and has very good ideas for her new role.  Lyn Leader-Elliot and Mel Rankine will give a talk at the Adelaide University about their collaboration in 2010 on ‘Retelling the Hahndorf Stories’ to reorganize the museum area.  This year’s Every Generation event named The Hahndorf Plate will focus on food producers and what people remember about the contents of their lunch boxes.  The Heysen Prize attracted 300 works from which 60 were chosen for exhibition.  The theme was still life.  In honour of Nora Heysen’s centenary.  In November there will be ‘show and tell’ at the Cedars.

4.  Hahndorf Community Assoc.   Tony reported that they are still trying to convince Transport SA to reroute trucks going through Hahndorf.  They remain very upset about damage to the Christian Jaensch House.  Tony also reported that our early Branch minutes have been scanned by Wendy Walker and that Annette had offered to help him work on the website on occasion.  Reg Butler has given permission for his work to be posted on the website.

5.  Reg Butler’s Book reprinting.   Anni reported she had received the following quotes from Reid Print ie 500 copies of ‘From Byways to Highways.  $1661 including GST.   500 copies of The Rose, Queen of Hahndorf’s Flowers, $1320 including GST.

Anni reported on discussion with Wendy Walker (produces the Village Voice) who agreed to type and reformat ‘Byways’ . Reg is unable to find the photos or can take the time to update the book published in 1992.  There are some books still for sale at the Academy from a box donated by Storison after the business was sold.

Annette agreed to take the two books to the Cedars for an opinion re possible sales.  Warehousing, finance and distribution process were discussed.  Tony suggested that these books be posted on our website for free downloading.  Anni suggested if this option is not agreeable to Reg, we consider donating $500 and seeking a grant towards this project when the formatting is completed.

6.  Christian Jaensch House.   The following issues were discussed.  The historic fabric has been interfered with and destroyed without approval.  Council should have imposed a fine and should not have given retrospective approval for a non-complying development.  A precedent has been set.  Anni was asked to write a letter of complaint.

7.  National Trust Spring Appeal.   Since we have not yet sorted out finances with SARCC we decided not to donate at present.

8.  Trust Strategic Planning.   Anni reported she has been unable to attend these sessions due to work.  What can we offer people who might want to pay to join the Trust in Hahndorf?  We dish out information anyway and don’t do bus trips, at present.  Should we?

9.  Wicks Reserve.   SATURDAY, 12 November at 9.00am or so for a morning of broom pulling.

* National Trust AGM on Sat 5 Nov at Glanville Hall, 8 Park Ave Semaphore South, 10.00-12.00 followed by State Conference.
