Come in for a guided wine tasting at Somerled Wines.

Somerled Wines is proudly family owned and specialises in only super premium wines.  Usually at least one of the Moody family members will be in residence, ready to welcome you and talk you through our range.  We offer a tasting sheet called “Once Around the Track” for $5, which is redeemable upon any purchase of wine.

Somerled is a super-premium range of wines made by former Penfolds winemaker Rob Moody.  The emphasis is on iconic Adelaide Hills varieties – pinot noir (blanc de noir, traditional method), sauvignon blanc (including a fumé blanc), chardonnay (full malo-lactic fermentation) and cabernet sauvignon – while a full-bodied rich shiraz from the owners’ Kangaroo Island vineyard is testament to the Penfolds background.

Somerled is the name of the racehorse that Rob’s grandfather rode to victory at the Adelaide Hills Oakbank Picnic Race Meet in 1908!

The Moody family, Lucy, Robin and Heather will welcome you to Somerled wines situated on the corner of the Main Street opposite Udder Delights.  The family has been at Somerled for 4 years, after Lucy returned home from Hong Kong.  Over a glass of her father’s wine, they decided it would be wonderful to sell his wine in the Hills and Hahndorf was perfect.

Their tasting flight is called “Once around the track” in memory of Somerled, a bay gelding ridden to victory by Robin’s grandfather in the Amateur Steeplechase at the local Oakbank Picnic races in 1908.

Rob spent more than 30 years at Penfolds, where he was involved with some of Australia’s most famous wines.  In 2001 he launched his own brand,
Somerled, with a rich McLaren Vale Shiraz and has since added wines made from the iconic cool climate varieties of the Adelaide Hills.
