The sport of kings came to Arlington Heights in 1927, in conjunction with the construction of Northwest Highway, which led motorists to the racetrack. Although the track was located west of the downtown area, it had a marked effect on the economy and tax base of the village. The railroad opened a station there as well, to make it easy for the city dwellers to part with their money.
