Biography


Amos was baptized in Woodbridge, CT February 1744. He served the State of Connecticut during the French and Indian War.

April 1, 1765 Amos married Elizabeth Cummins in New Milford, CT. They had 8 children and moved to Canaan and Durham, NY

Around 1802 some of his children moved to what is now the Bennington, NY area. Amos, possibly while visiting his children, became the first white person to die in the area in 1805. 

He was originally buried on a knoll in East Bennington and in 1879 he was re-interred in the Tolles family plot in Forest Hill Cemetery by his grandson, James Sibley Tolles
