Biography


Bryce Thompson was born into the Seneca Nation, Snipe clan in the Cattaraugus Territory. He began his education career in 1980 with the Seneca Nation Education Department's Johnson O'Malley Program. Bryce transferred in 1984 to the Gowanda School District's Title VII Bilingual Program as the Instructional Services Coordinator while working towards his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Fredonia. Here he help pioneer Seneca Language lessons which would receive New York State Regents credit, the first of any indigenous language in the state, in 1986. During his summers his team ran Seneca Language immersion camps at Seneca Nation's Highbank Campgrounds.

In 1988 the Title VII program expired but the Gowanda School District hired him as a 4th grade teacher. He eventually earned his Masters Degree and School Administrator certifications while also working as a part time police officer. 

In 1999 Bryce transferred to the Attica Central School District as the Assistant Principle. He would later be promoted to Principle and finally Superintendent. He would served as Superintendent from June 2002 to December 2021.
