Constructed in the late 1870s or early 1880s by Peter French, the round barn was used to train horses during the winter. While there were originally two to three in the area, the Peter French Round Barn is the only one left in Eastern Oregon. Located south of Burns, adventurers can take the Diamond Loop Tour Route or the High Desert Discovery Scenic Byway to reach this destination. In 1969, the French family donated the barn and land to the state of Oregon and as of September 10, 1971, the site was listed on the National Register.
