Concept

The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar offers an unusual variety of sushi and burger options in a casual, vibrant atmosphere. The menu specializes in eclectic fusion elements like burgushi, a sushi roll made with burger ingredients. The restaurant first opened in Charlotte’s South Park area in November 2010 and has since expanded to Raleigh. Residents of both cities love the unexpected fusion concept, the laid-back ambience and the 600-gallon aquarium filled with actual cowfish and other exotic creatures.

History

Alan Springate, Marcus Hall, and Luise Camire opened The Cowfish in Charlotte, N.C. in late 2010. Luise now serves as Chief Operating Partner. Springate and Hall had worked previously together at eeZ Fusion & Sushi in Huntersville, N.C.

The Cowfish has earned the attention of many regional food and travel publications, including SouthPark magazine, Charlotte Living magazine, and SavorNC magazine. The restaurant won the “New Best Concept” award from Charlotte magazine in 2011. The Cowfish also won the “Best Burger” award in the January 2012 issue of Uptown magazine.

The Cowfish owners opened a second location in Raleigh, N.C. in April 2013. The restaurant and its owners were featured on Animal Planet's television series “Tanked” in May 2013.

Universal CityWalk, part of Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla. will host the third Cowfish location in late 2014.

Menu

The Cowfish menu centers around two popular dishes: burgers and sushi. Burgers range from the basic (“The Bare Bones Burger”) to the bizarre (e.g., an Elvis Presley-style burger called “The Cowfish Has Officially Left the Building"). Seafood fans will enjoy the wide assortment of sushi offerings and the build-your-own sushi bar, while adventurous folks may want to opt for a fusion meal of burgushi or a bento box. The Cowfish also features a full bar that serves craft beer, wine, sake and handmade martinis. Dessert and kids’ menus are also available.
