Kevin Coval is cofounder (with Anna West) of Louder Than a Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival and Artistic Director of Young Chicago Authors, a nonprofit encouraging self-expression and literacy among Chicago youth through reading, writing, and performance. His books include Schtick, L-Vis Lives!: Racemusic Poems, Everyday People, Slingshots: A Hip-Hop Poetica, and More Shit Chief Keef Don’t Like. Coval teaches hip-hop aesthetics at the University of Illinois-Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is also a four-time H.B.O. Def Poet, a playwright (This Is Modern Art, written with Idris Goodwin and a New Voices/New Visions award-winner), and an editor (The Breakbeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip Hop; due from Haymarket Books in 2015).
