CHRC acts as a catalyst to promote the building of positive relationships between and among various groups and cultures; CHRC mobilizes institutions and individuals to resolve diversity issues while developing mechanisms to ensure equitable treatment of all persons. CHRC is the cornerstone of improved human relations and collaboration in the Cincinnati area; CHRC serves as a conduit for information from and to various groups including the Mayor, City Council, and the City Manager.Edit conflict! Human Relations is the study of group behavior for the purpose of improving interpersonal relationships in the community.

The Cincinnati Human Relations Commission is authorized to study and investigate problems of relationships between various racial, religious, and ethnic groups in order to foster mutual respect and understanding, work to alleviate prejudice and discrimination in the City, and encourage equality and fairness in the treatment of all citizens to enhance the quality of life in the Cincinnati area. It receives funding support from the city. It works with Community Outreach Advocates to reduce handgun violence. It is a worksite for the city's Youth 2 Work program.
