The Commerce Independent School District is the public independent school district serving the City of Commerce.

In February 2017, its enrollment was 1,591, while it reached a high of 1,624 in September 2016. All campuses as well as the district itself "Met Standard". It is a "District of Innovation", which is bringing with it calendar and certification changes. It is supported by the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation, which was founded in 2006 and has since given the district $430,000 to fund teacher proposals for student needs and enrichment. It is also engaged in the ASPIRE program with Texas A&M University-Commerce, a collaborative effort that focuses on after-school programs, summer programs, professional development, mentoring programs, and overall quality of life.

In addition to its Central Administration Building, it consists of four schools:

  1. Commerce Elementary School (lower elementary)
  2. A. C. Williams Elementary School (upper elementary)
  3. Commerce Middle School
  4. Commerce High School
