The lot for 1108 Congress was purchased n 1921 by Denton brothers G. Sidney Smith and Henry W, Smith who contracted with builder H.F. Davidson for its construction.  Davidson built several significant homes during his life, including the Martin-Russell Home at 811 W. Oak and the Quakertown House.  this home exhibits any of the architectural features of a craftsman bungalow style home, including a low, pitched roof, deep overhanging eaves, exposed rafter tails, multi-pane double hung windows, a breakfast nook, and built in book cases surrounding the fire place.   As a bungalow, it can be more particularly classified in the Portico Bungalow genre because of it's use colonial revival elements.

The home was passed through the Smith family several times from it’s construction through the 1970’s.  Early in its history the home was rented by prominent Church of Christ preacher and writer William Morton Davis.  Davis authored “Sermon Outlines” in collaboration with G.H.P. Showalter, which sold over 150,000 copies. The home was often used for church meetings and bible studies.  The property obtained a Denton Historic Marker in 2014.
