Dorothy Shapiro was a patient in Saranac Lake, according to her niece, Adele Root. Dorothy was the daughter of Ida Shapiro, also a patient here, who died in 1934. In Saranac Lake Dorothy met Al Fink, another patient whom she married. After her cure and Al's death, Dorothy Fink became a social worker at the Mt. Morris, NY, TB sanatorium, where monthly chest X-rays were mandated for workers. Dorothy lived to age 92, and attributed a case of breast cancer to these frequent X-rays.
