BABIES BADLY BURNED.

Carelessness of a Nurse May Have Serious Results.

The carelessness of a nurse was responsible for painful injuries received by two babies at Saranac Lake, Sunday. The little ones are the twin year-old daughters of Mrs. Basil Gordon, of Baltimore, Md., who arrived at her camp, Silverstrand, about two miles from Paul Smith's, about two weeks ago. The children are beautiful, and have attracted much attention from the cottagers and hotel guests in that section.

Sunday evening as the nurse was placing her two young charges in bed, the draperies of the couch caught fire from a lighted candle which she was carrying in her hand. The terrified nurse attempted to extinguish the blaze and rescue the children, but did not succeed in doing so until the latter had been severely and dangerously burned, one about the abdomen and limbs and the other about the head and left side of the face.

Dr. E. L. Trudeau, of New York, was summoned, and said he had hopes of the recovery of both children.

Mrs. Gordon is the wife of former Congressman Basil Gordon, of Maryland, and is prominent in Baltimore society.
