Phil Lalande was the owner of Gendron Lumber Company and well known as the "Answer Man" for his ads on WPTZ Radio. Born in Canada, Phil moved to Saranac Lake to work for his uncle, Donat Gendron, at his store, but also to play hockey for the Lake Placid Roamers, a semi-professional farm team for the New York Rangers, from 1954 through the mid 1960s. Phil was the driving force in re-establishing the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association in 1963, and building the civic center beginning about 1970. A highlight of his life was the chance to introduce President Bill Clinton to about 1,100 attendees at an event in the civic center in August 2000. Phil was profiled in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise on January 27, 2016.
