Raymond (Pete) Baker with baby Katherine and wife Katharine, c.1908. Photo is labeled, "Pete and baby taking the cure." Raymond Baker TB Card, courtesy of the Saranac Lake Free Library

Born: September 20, 1881 in Watertown, NY

Died: November 25, 1944 in Luray, Virginia

Married: Katharine Costello

Children: Katherine and Mary

Nicknamed Pete, Raymond K. Baker was living in Washington D.C. at the time of this Saranac Lake visit. A TB card found in the Adirondack Room archives is dated Oct 15, 1915, which means he probably came for the cure on more than one occasion. By the time of his 1915 visit he had 2 daughters, and his wife Katharine had died Sep 17, 1914. She died of myocarditis, a viral infection/inflammatory disease of the heart.

Pete died in Nov 25, 1944, 2 months after his grandson, Stu Rogers, was born. Pete's daughter, Katherine, took care of him the last few years of his life as he was quite ill, presumably with a respiratory condition.

On the back of the photo Pete's daughter, Katherine, had written "Katherine with Mom & Dad, Saranac Lake, N.Y."

Information provided by his grandson, Stu Rogers, 2013.
