In 2012, Miami urbanist Karja Hansen worked with local volunteers to create a co-working, co-education and co-trade space in Miami called {Barrio} Workshop, in East Little Havana. Throughout 2012, the space hosted numerous community events and workshops and was also the site of a local festival called Flagler Nights.

In 2013, the owner of the space, Jose Fernandez, decided to bring the space back to its original use as office space for colleagues in real estate and as a site for meetings, workshops and events specifically focused on planning and transportation issues affecting Little Havana.

Karja Hansen, along with other active volunteers, are seeking a new space to host the {Barrio} Workshop concept.
