In the 17th Century, Mill Plain referred to the level area on the west side of Park Street. The name dates back at least as early as 1665.

In the 18th Century, Mill Plain referred to the level area on the west side of Main Street, south of Cross Street. The name dates back at least as early as 1764.¹
