George Walter Wells (b. 1868/9 , d. 1943) was the son of Dr. John R. Wells and Henrietta (Nettie) Wells nee Stuart. He was the brother of Frank Stuart Wells.

In 1887, he graduated from Arkansas College with L.B. Poindexter and D. Sloan.1

In 1893, he was appointed postmaster of Powhatan after M.D. Hudson resigned.2

In 1894, he married Stella Coffman.

In 1898, G.W. Wells was sued by the School District No. 34 of Lawrence County.  (Box 80, Folder 115)

In  the 1900 census , he is listed as a farmer in Black River Township.

In 1901, he was appointed as an honorary commissioner for the World's Fair.3

In 1902, his daughter Johnnie Wells was born.

In the 1910 census, he is listed as a druggist for retail drug store in Dent Township, which encompasses Imboden and Ravenden where his father had also moved.

In 1910, he was nominated as a Republican candidate for county and probate judge.45 He had previously run in 1908 against Judge J.D. Doyle.

In 1911, G.W. Wells was sued by Hall for debt, among other defendants including W.D. Taylor, and H.F. Sloan.

In 1918, He was elected grand master of the Arkansas Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.6

In the 1920 census, George is living with his brother Frank Stuart, his mother Nettie, daughter Johnnie, and a servant cook in Imboden. This is most likely the land and home Frank inherited from their father Dr. John R. Wells. George and sister Laura had inherited the land in Powhatan. The brothers are listed as farmers.

In 1922, G.W. Wells filed suit against F.L. Coffman for dept. (Box 43, Folder 1)

In 1924, George Walter Wells filed for divorce in the Chancery court against Emma Wells. (NEARA, Box 41, Folder 25)

In the 1930 census, George is living with his daughter and her husband, Walter Winford, in Powhatan.

In 1932, The Federal Land Bank of St. Louis filed foreclosure on G.W. Wells and several others. (Box 46, Folder 13)

George Walter Wells died in 1943.
