      • Né le 11 juin 1864 à Merrickville (Ontario), il sera d’abord professeur au Ottawa Business College et comptable dans la même province. À Rock Island, il entre à l’emploi de Jondro & Goodhue comme comptable et agent sur la route pour près de 12 ans. En 1898, il crée avec T. O. Chapman la « Dominion Specialty Company » qui change rapidement de nom pour la « Telford & Chapman Manufacturing Company ».

  • TELFORD, James Franklin, Rock Island, Que. Born at Merrickville, Ont., June 11, 1864, son of Walter W. Telford and Armanella (Smith) Telford. Descendants of James Telford and Sarah Robinson who came to Canada from England over a hundred years ago, settling first at By-Town, (Ottawa). E. at common and High Schools of Ontario and National Business College of Ottawa; Justice of Peace for District of St. Francis; Trustee and Secretary of Trustee Board of Stanstead Wesleyan College; member C.O.F. and I.O.F.; Liberal. Came to Rock Island Feb. 1, 1887, entering emply of Jondro & Goodhue, mfgrs. of boot and shoes as traveller and bookkeeper; on Mr. Goodhue's retirement, eight years later, became practical manager during balance of twelve years connected with the shoe business; in 1899 together with T. O. Chapman started the Dominion Speciality Co., which later developed into the Telford & Chapman Mfg. Co., mfrs. of horse blankets, sheep-skin lined coats, etc. This business continued to 1913 when it was organized into Telford & Champman, Ltd., J. F. Telford retaining presidency of incorporated company. Married Jennie May Chapman, Sept. 1, 1891; children, James Wilbur, Clara Armanella.
