      • Railroad Street: The Gaylord house (owned by Mr. Neveu) Naret, two small houses near the grist mill and at the foot of the hill, beyond the paper mill, the Reed house.

    • Reed brothers: Started a paper mill in 1832. Samuel Reed left Rock Island in 1849.
    • Asa Gaylord: From Montpelier, VT., came at the same time as the Reeds. Book binding business, left in 1850 for a farm 2 miles east of Derby Line (d. 1868)

    • The Reed Brothers:
      • John, Samuel, and Stephen: started a paper mill about 1832, and for a few years sustained a large and profitable business in paper, books and general stationery; but the abundant supplies of those articles from the southern markets at very low prices , and the general depression of the times, compelled them to relinquish the enterprise. They had built at an expense of $5,000. The property has since passed into the hands of Ozro Morrill. (p. 34)

    • Traite de l’érection d’un moulin à papier à Rock Island autour de 1823 par Silas H. Dickerson, vraisemblablement pour les besoins de son hebdomadaire "The British Colonist".
      • Les frères John, Samuel et Stephen Reed aurait acheté ledit moulin en 1832 et connu un succès commercial pendant quelques années ; cependant, la compétition du marché américain aurait forcé les frères Reed à abandonner les activités du moulin à papier entre 1844 et 1850 (en effet, le recensement de 1844 note la présence d’un moulin, mais pas celui de 1851) ; Carruthers souligne que le moulin a possiblement été la propriété de R. H. Perkins & Co à partir de 1842.
